UN International Day of Peace on 21 September 2014 in Salzburg
On this year's UN International Day of Peace on 21 September, the Salzburg Peace Network again organised a big celebration. Being a part of the Salzburg Peace Network, Yoga in Daily Life significantly contributes to the success of the festival, and in this year we were about 220 participants.
At the beginning there was a very resounding start with the music group Libertango. Then a children's dance group danced to melodies from different parts of the world.
Our keynote speaker, Dr. Manuela Widmer shared very impressive thoughts about peace with us; and the Oikumenia Gospel Choir attracted the whole audience with their vocal contributions.
Since the Peace Network always supports a social project and this year's motto was: "Youth is our Future", on this occasion the choice fell on the Peace Flotilla. For this purpose, a group from the Peace Flotilla came to the festival and shared the experiences they had gained during their week-long sailing trip on the oceans.
A recurring highlight of our event is the presentation of religious symbols of all world religions. Children brought the symbols to the stage and lit a candle for each religion. Then a flag mandala was created from the flags of all nations of the world, and together everyone sent wishes for all nations and all people to live in peace and harmony.
