International Day of Non-Violence 2016
International Day of Non-Violence celebrated around the world by Sri Swami Madhavananda World Peace Council and Yoga in Daily Life
The 2nd of October was proclaimed by the United Nations in 2007 to be the International Day of Non-Violence, commemorated each year on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhiji. This year, Yoga in Daily Life centers throughout the world performed public observances and peace prayers on behalf of the Sri Swami Madhavananda World Peace Council.
In Wellington, New Zealand, during his annual World Peace Tour, His Holiness Vishwaguruji was invited by the Pujya Mahatma Gandhi Commemoration Committee (PMGBCC) to participate in the commemoration for Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday and observance of International Day of Non-Violence. The ceremonial puja was performed by H.H. Vishwaguruji, in the presence of His Excellency Sanjiv Kohli, High Commissioner of India to New Zealand; Mr Justin Lester, Deputy Mayor of Wellington; Mr Ian McKinnon, former Deputy Mayor of Wellington; Sri Joshiji, pandit from the Wellington Hindu Temple; with assembled members of the Yoga in Daily Life Society of New Zealand.

At the United Nations New York Headquarters, USA, Mrs. Denis Licul, Secretary General of Sri Swami Madhavananda World Peace Council attended the official UN commemoration program for International Day of Non-Violence, organized by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN.

In Vienna, Austria the International Day of Non-Violence was celebrated together with two more anniversaries: 40 years of Divine Light in Mahaprabhuji Ashram, Vishwaguruji's first ashram, founded 1976 in Vienna; and 12 years of Divine light in Guruji Ashram Vienna, the largest yoga center in Austria.

Organized by Yoga in Daily Life, the Indian Embassy in Croatia and the City of Rijeka, Croatia marked the International Day of Non-violence with a Forum on the theme of non-violence and peace, and by planting a Peace Tree in the city center. More than a hundred citizens of Rijeka with guests from all over Croatia and neighboring countries, had the opportunity to participate in an exceptionally vibrant and inspiring discussion. The Forum was attended by Indian Ambassador to Croatia, His Excellency Sandeep Kumar; the Mayor of Rijeka, Mr. Vojko Obersnel; Mahamandaleshwar Swami Vivekpuri, president of the Hindu Society of Croatia; Dr. Manfred Stepponat as representative on behalf of the Sri Swami Madhavananda World Peace Council and International Fellowship of Yoga in Daily Life; and many other delegates from religions, cultural societies and academic institutions.
